Terms of Use (EULA)
Runlines is free to download and the free tier keeps working without paying. Runlines Pro is an optional auto-renewing subscription sold by Apple: $7.99 a month, or $39.99 a year with a 7-day free trial. It renews until you cancel it in iPhone Settings at least 24 hours before the period ends. Apple's standard EULA applies, plus the terms below.
1. Apple's EULA applies
Your use of Runlines is governed by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the Apple EULA), which is the end user license agreement for this app. The sections below are additional terms between you and Jay Alcalde (we, us), the developer of Runlines (the app), covering the subscription, the free tier, and support. Where these terms and the Apple EULA conflict, the Apple EULA wins.
By downloading or using the app you agree to the Apple EULA and to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app. You must be old enough to form a binding contract where you live, or have a parent or guardian's permission.
2. Your license
As the Apple EULA sets out, you get a personal, non-transferable license to use Runlines on Apple devices you own or control, as the App Store usage rules allow. You may not copy, modify, reverse engineer, resell, or redistribute the app. The app, its name, Echo the parrot, its artwork, the built-in sample scene, and its code remain ours.
Scripts you import are yours or the rights holder's. You are responsible for having the right to use the text you paste or import; the app keeps it on your iPhone for your own rehearsal and never publishes or shares it.
3. The free tier
Runlines works without paying and without an account. Five runs every month with the other parts read aloud, your lines covered until you reveal them, a count of the lines you said without a peek after each run, and off book, learning, and shaky counts on each script. One imported script (pasted, PDF, or TXT) plus the built-in sample scene; scripts over 40 lines run their first 40. Choose the partner voice. No account, no sign-in. Free runs reset on the first day of each month. We may change what the free tier includes in later versions, but we will not take away scripts, recordings, or progress you have already created.
4. Runlines Pro subscription
Runlines Pro adds unlimited scripts of any length and unlimited runs, Record mode with your own voice, cue-only drills that play just the last three words before each of your lines, word-by-word reveal, a different voice for each character, speech rate and pause controls, a mastery percentage per script with run history, and a daily rehearsal reminder.
Runlines Pro is an auto-renewable subscription sold through Apple's in-app purchase system, in one subscription group with two plans:
- Monthly: $7.99 per month. No free trial.
- Yearly: $39.99 per year, starting with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers.
Prices are in US dollars. The App Store shows the exact price in your currency, including any tax, before you confirm, and that is the price that applies.
4.1 Payment
Payment is charged to your Apple Account (Apple ID) when you confirm the purchase. If you start the yearly plan's free trial, nothing is charged during the trial, and $39.99 is charged to your Apple Account when the trial ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends.
4.2 Automatic renewal
The subscription renews automatically at the same price and length (one month or one year) unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple Account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the current period ends. After a renewal is charged you keep Runlines Pro for the whole period.
4.3 Free trial
The 7-day free trial applies to the yearly plan only and is available once per Apple Account. Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when you purchase a subscription, for example if you switch to the monthly plan during the trial.
4.4 Manage or cancel
Apple manages the subscription, so you cancel it on your iPhone, not inside the app: open Settings, tap your name (your Apple Account, called Apple ID on older iOS versions), tap Subscriptions, tap Runlines, then tap Cancel Subscription. You can also open the App Store, tap your picture, then Subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before the current period or trial ends to avoid the next charge. Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription. After cancelling you keep Runlines Pro until the end of the period already paid for.
4.5 Price changes
If we change a price, Apple tells you in advance and, where the law or Apple's rules require it, asks for your consent before the new price applies. If you do not agree, the subscription ends at the close of the current period.
4.6 Refunds
Payments go to Apple, so Apple handles refunds under its own policy. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue refunds directly and never see your payment details.
4.7 Restoring purchases
On a new iPhone or after reinstalling, sign in with the same Apple Account and tap Restore Purchases (in the app's Settings or on the subscription screen). A subscription belongs to the Apple Account that bought it and cannot be moved to another Apple Account.
5. Your data
Scripts, recordings, and progress stay on your iPhone. We do not hold a copy, so back up your iPhone if you want to keep them. Subscription purchases are recorded by Apple and by our subscription service provider, RevenueCat, under an anonymous ID. The Privacy Policy explains this and is part of these terms.
6. What the app is and is not
Runlines is a rehearsal aid. It reads lines with the text-to-speech voices installed on your iPhone, which vary by device and iOS version, and it does not check your delivery or listen to you. Mastery percentages and rehearsal plans are counts of your own taps, not a promise that you will be off book, cast, or word-perfect on the night.
7. Acceptable use
Use the app lawfully. Do not try to get around the in-app purchase system or tamper with purchase records.
8. Updates and availability
We may release updates that add, change, or remove features. We may stop offering the app with reasonable notice; if we stop Runlines Pro while you have paid time left, we will keep it working for that time or work with Apple so you are refunded for the unused part.
9. No warranty
In plain terms: the app is provided as it is, and as available. To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no promises beyond what the Apple EULA and the law require, including any implied promise that the app is fit for a particular purpose, free of bugs, or always available. Some places do not allow these exclusions, so some may not apply to you.
10. Limitation of liability
In plain terms: if something goes wrong, we are not responsible for indirect or knock-on losses, such as a lost audition, lost data, or lost income. To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim about the app is limited to what you paid for Runlines Pro in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that the law does not allow us to limit.
11. Apple's role
As the Apple EULA explains, Apple is not a party to these terms and is not responsible for the app or its support. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and disputes go to the state or federal courts in California, except that you may use small claims court where you live. If you are a consumer whose local law gives you mandatory protections, you keep them.
13. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms we update the effective date above. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept it; if you do not, stop using the app and cancel the subscription.
