About
About Runlines
Runlines is an iPhone app for memorizing lines. It reads every other character's lines aloud and waits at yours, so you can run a scene with nobody else in the room. It is developed by Michael Alcalde, an independent developer, and sold on the App Store under his name.
Why it exists
Every actor knows the week when the sides arrive, the audition is days away, and nobody can run lines. The usual workarounds are reading the page until it looks familiar, which does not hold up once the page is gone, or recording the other parts into a voice memo, which takes longer than the rehearsal. Runlines does the reading so you can do the remembering: paste the scene, pick your character, and run it as many times as it takes.
How it is built
- On your iPhone, not on a server. Scripts are read on the phone, the voices are the phone's own, and recordings are saved on the phone. There is no account and no copy of your script anywhere else.
- A free version that does the real job. Five runs a month with the full scene partner, one script of your own, and the off book, learning, and shaky marks. Runlines Pro adds more, at prices stated plainly on the pricing page.
- No price during setup. The first-launch questions end on your Scripts list. The Runlines Pro screen appears only when you tap something that is part of Pro.
- Honest about limits. Runlines does not listen to you, the voices do not act, and it cannot read a scanned PDF. Those limits are on the home page and in the FAQ, not hidden in a footnote.
Echo, the parrot
Echo is the Runlines mascot: a calm teal-and-charcoal parrot holding a folded script page. Parrots repeat things without judgment, which is what a good line partner does. Echo asks the questions when you first open the app and runs the sample scene with you. After that, Echo steps aside, and the app is just you and your script.
What you will not find on this site
No star ratings, download counts, or testimonials. Runlines is new, and we will not invent any of those. When there are real App Store reviews, you can read them on the App Store.
