Privacy Policy
Your scripts, your voice recordings, and your rehearsal progress stay on your iPhone. Runlines has no account and no server of its own, and it never uploads a script. The one thing that leaves the phone is a record of subscription purchases: Apple processes the payment, and a service called RevenueCat keeps a record of the purchase under an anonymous ID so we can see subscription and trial numbers. This page explains exactly what that means.
Who this policy covers
This policy describes how the Runlines iPhone app (the app) and this website handle information. The app is published by Jay Alcalde (we, us), an individual developer. It applies to every version of Runlines distributed through the Apple App Store. Questions go to jayalcalde93@gmail.com.
What stays on your iPhone
Everything you put into Runlines, which means the scripts you paste or import, the character you play, which lines you revealed and which you said without peeking, your mastery and run history, your onboarding answers and rehearsal plan, your voice and reminder settings, and the audio recordings you make in Record mode, is written to the app's private storage on your iPhone (its Documents folder and its settings store). Specifically:
- Scripts. When you paste a scene or open a PDF or TXT file, the text is read on the iPhone with Apple's PDFKit and saved in the app. It is never uploaded.
- Spoken lines. Runlines reads the other characters' lines with Apple's built-in text-to-speech voices (AVSpeechSynthesizer), which run on the device. The script text is not sent anywhere to be spoken.
- Voice recordings. Record mode (a Pro feature) uses the microphone only while you hold the record button, and only after you allow microphone access when iOS asks. Each recording is an audio file saved next to its script on your iPhone. Recordings are never uploaded, and the app has no speech recognition: nothing listens to you or transcribes you.
- Progress and plan. Which lines you revealed, which you said without peeking, your mastery percentage, your run history, your answers to the onboarding questions, and the rehearsal plan built from them.
- Settings and reminders. Voice choices, speech rate, pause length, and the daily rehearsal reminder. The reminder is a local notification scheduled by your iPhone after you allow notifications; no server sends it.
This data is included in your iCloud or computer backup if you back up your iPhone, under Apple's backup terms. We cannot see it, recover it, or hand it to anyone. Deleting a script in the app deletes its recordings; deleting the app deletes all of it.
Subscriptions: Apple and RevenueCat
Runlines Pro is sold as an auto-renewing subscription through Apple's in-app purchase system. Apple processes the payment. We never see your name, email address, Apple Account, or card. Apple's handling of your purchase is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy.
The app also includes the RevenueCat SDK from RevenueCat, Inc., a subscription service provider. Apple's StoreKit inside the app decides whether you have Runlines Pro; RevenueCat records the purchases so we can see how many people subscribe, start a trial, renew, or cancel. When the app starts, and when a purchase or renewal happens, the RevenueCat SDK sends RevenueCat:
- An anonymous app user ID. A random identifier that RevenueCat generates on first launch (it starts with
$RCAnonymousID) and stores in the app. It is not your name, email, or Apple Account, and we never attach any of those to it. - Purchase and subscription history. Which product you bought (monthly or yearly), the price and currency, purchase, trial, renewal, and expiration dates, and Apple's transaction IDs.
- Basic device and app information. iOS version, app version, SDK version, device locale, and the App Store country (storefront). Like any server your iPhone connects to, RevenueCat's servers also receive the IP address of the connection.
We use this for two purposes only: app functionality (keeping an accurate record of subscriptions and trials, and checking that purchases are genuine) and analytics of purchases (subscription, trial, and revenue numbers in RevenueCat's dashboard). The data is not linked to your identity, is not used for advertising, and is not sold. The app does not ask RevenueCat to collect the advertising identifier (IDFA) or other device identifiers, and does not connect RevenueCat to any advertising or attribution service. RevenueCat processes this data on our behalf under RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
No script, recording, run result, or onboarding answer is ever sent to RevenueCat.
What we do not do
- No account. There is no sign-up and no login. We never ask for your name, email, phone number, or password.
- No ads and no tracking. The app shows no ads, does not use the advertising identifier, does not track you across other companies' apps or websites, and never shows the App Tracking Transparency prompt because it has nothing to ask for.
- No other analytics or crash reporting. Apart from the RevenueCat purchase records above, the app contains no analytics, crash-reporting, attribution, or advertising code. We do not know which screens you use or how often you rehearse.
- No location, contacts, photos, camera, or speech recognition. The app does not ask for any of them. The only permissions it can ask for are the microphone (Record mode) and notifications (the daily reminder), each only when you turn that feature on.
- No selling or sharing. We have never sold or shared personal information, and we will not.
This website
This site is static HTML hosted on Vercel. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics script, and has no forms that send anything. The off-book planner on this site runs entirely in your browser: the date and line count you type into it are never sent to us or stored. Vercel, as the host, may keep standard request logs (such as IP address, requested page, and browser type) for a short time to run and secure the service, under Vercel's privacy policy. We do not analyze those logs.
If you email jayalcalde93@gmail.com, we see your address and what you write, and use it only to answer you. We do not add you to a mailing list or share your message. Ask and we will delete the thread.
How long data is kept
- On your iPhone: until you delete the script or the app.
- At RevenueCat: purchase records are kept while Runlines is offered and for as long as they are needed for subscription records, accounting, and tax, then deleted. You can ask for earlier deletion (below).
- Support email: as long as needed to answer you, or until you ask us to delete it.
Deleting your data
- Data on your iPhone: delete a script from its screen (Delete script) to remove it and its recordings, or delete the app to remove everything Runlines stored.
- Purchase records at RevenueCat: email jayalcalde93@gmail.com with the subject "Runlines data deletion", the approximate purchase date, and the Order ID from Apple's receipt email. Because the ID is anonymous, those details are how we find the matching record. We delete it at RevenueCat within 30 days and confirm by email. Apple keeps its own record of the purchase under your Apple Account.
- Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. Cancel in iPhone Settings, your name, Subscriptions.
Children
Runlines is rated 4+ and is used by drama students, but it is not directed at children under 13 and asks no one for personal information. The only data that leaves the device is the anonymous purchase record described above, and purchases on a child's Apple Account are controlled by the parent through Apple's Family Sharing and Ask to Buy. If you believe a child has sent us personal information by email, write to us and we will delete it.
Your rights
California residents (CCPA/CPRA). In the last 12 months the only category of personal information collected through the app is commercial information (purchase history) tied to an anonymous identifier, plus the connection's IP address, collected by RevenueCat as our service provider for the purposes above. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we do not use sensitive personal information. You have the right to know what we hold, to ask us to delete or correct it, and not to be treated differently for using these rights. Email us to make a request.
European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland (GDPR/UK GDPR). We are the controller of the purchase records described above, and RevenueCat is our processor. Our legal basis is performance of the contract you enter when you subscribe (keeping your subscription record) and our legitimate interest in understanding subscription numbers. You can ask for access, correction, deletion, restriction, or a copy of your data, or object to processing, by emailing us; we reply within 30 days. You may also complain to your local data protection authority. RevenueCat is based in the United States; transfers there rely on the safeguards described in RevenueCat's privacy policy.
Security
Data on the device is protected by iOS app sandboxing, device encryption, and your passcode or Face ID. RevenueCat receives purchase data over encrypted connections. Because we hold no copy of your scripts or recordings, no breach on our side can expose them.
Changes to this policy
If Runlines starts handling data differently, we will update this page and the effective date at the top before releasing the version that does it, and describe the change in plain words.
